Common Signs of Learning Disabilities

There´s a lot of people involved when we face a learning disability, such as parents, teachers, and other professionals.If this is early discovered and with the right kind of help, the affected child can develope the necessary skills to make his or her life successful.

And this is not a fake, you will be able to see how there are some very successful famous people with these dissabilities.

Problems can appear in a short period of time or it can happen continuously, so they can appear in different educational stages as we will see,but in both cases parents are often the first to be aware of the problem as they are the ones spending more time with the children.

If you have kids or children around who you suspect that are having this kind of problems, please pay attention because this may help you a lot!!!!


PRESCHOOL
  • Learns to speak later than most children
  • Pronunciation problems
  • Unable to find the right word
  • Easily distracted
  • Trouble interacting with other students
  • Difficulty following routines


GRADES K-4
  • Slow to learn the connection between letters and sounds
  • Confuses words such as basic verbs
  • Makes spelling errors 
  • Transposes number sequences and confuses arithmetic signs (+, -, x, /, =), they also have trouble learning about time
  • Slow to remember facts and to learn new skills
  • They take the pencil in an unstable way
  • Poor coordination

GRADES 5-8

  • Reverses letter sequences.for example:soiled/solid
  • Slow to learn spelling strategies
  • Avoids reading aloud
  • Trouble with word problems
  • Difficulty with handwriting, as a result of this they avoid writing assignments
  • They take the pencil in an akward way
  • Slow or poor recall of facts
  • Difficulty making friends
  • Trouble understanding body language and facial expressions
